Can I save on drugs for my pets?
Yes. Many drugs for pets are also human drugs. Ask your veterinarian if there is a human equivalent and dosage for your pet. If so, your vet can write a prescription to be filled with your ProAct savings card at most of our participating pharmacies.
-
Human equivalent vs pet only medications
Many pet medications are the same as those that are prescribed for humans and most pharmacies will fill your pet prescription for a “human-equivalent” medication. Human-equivalent pet medications include: antibiotics, thyroid medications, arthritis and pain medications, and ear or eye medications. When your veterinarian gives you a prescription for your pet, ask if there is a human-equivalent for that medication. You can then use your ProAct card to receive a discount on the human-equivalent pet prescription.
Pet-only medications are medications that can only be dispensed through a veterinary clinic and are not for human consumption.

Are generic prescription drugs really as good as brand name drugs?
A rated generics meet the same quality standards as brand name prescription drugs and thus provide the same medical benefits. A drug that is A rated by the FDA as a generic equivalent contains identical active ingredients as the brand name drug, the same dosage as the brand name drug, and delivers the same concentrations of drug to the bloodstream within the same amount of time. Other than the price, there is little difference when comparing generic vs brand name drugs, although the shape or color of the generic you buy is likely to be different from brand name medicines. Contact us if you have additional questions about generic vs brand name drugs.
